Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge was the first in the world to run a marathon in less than two hours.

In Vienna, a project was launched as part of the Ineos 1:59 Challenge, which is funded by a British businessman and owner of the petrochemical company Ineos Jim Ratcliffe. The Vienna Marathon is not part of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) program and was organized in order to achieve the goal of running 42.2 km in less than 2 hours.

Earlier on September 16, 2018, Kipchoge set a world record and the result is 42.2 km. for 2: 01.39. Now now
Eliud Kipchoge was the first in the world to run a marathon in less than two hours.
