Biete will defend at Open Kitchen

A NEW youth sensation is set to kick off the Open Kitchen Rapid Chess Tournament titled the IM Joel Banawa Chess Cup at the September 1 Open Kitchen, Rockwell Business Center-Sheridan, Highwayhills, Greenfields District in Mandaluyong City.

Tournament registration starts at 8 am until 10:30 am followed by a simple opening ceremony.

The format is a seven-round Swiss System with a time control of 10 minutes plus ten seconds increment conducted in tribute to the deceased IM Rolly Martinez who was supported by Ms. China Aurelio and Ms. Mimi Casas of Open Kitchen, Phoenix Chess Academy, Mr. Danilo Ebao of Three Knights Printing Services, ChiliJuan, Mr. Arturo Turbanada, Mr. Jeffrey Dimalanta and Ms. Emz Forrosuelo of Otsuka-Solar Philippines Inc. (Pocari Sweat).

We will recall that Angele Tenshi Biete, Grade 8 pupil of the De La Salle Santiago Zobel School, won the Open Kitchen Kiddies 14 Years Old and Below Rapid Chess Championship after defeating Ritchie James Abellada in the final round.

Biete finished with 6 wins and 1 loss in seven outings equal to Jeremy Marticio's record in the National Chess Federation of the Philippines one-day sanctioned tournament on June 1.

Chief Arbiter was FNA Alexander “Alex” Dinoy while assistants were national arbiters Alfredo Chay, Miel Bautista, Israel Landicho and Byron Villar of the Chess Arbiter Union of the Philippines.

I was inspired that this little girls know how to play chess, I think i will teach my daughter to play chess to improve her thinking skills.
