Oklahoma City Thunder forward Danilo Gallinari will play for Italy's team in the upcoming 2019 FIBA World Cup.

It was even announced by the Italian Basketball Federation that Gallinari underwent appendectomy.

The basketball body said the 6-foot-10 forward would rest two weeks before attending practice with his teammates.

Due to the operation, Gallnari is no longer in the Trentino Cup, and is expected to miss the Verona Tournament.

Gallinari is part of Italy's crucial campaign to advance to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Gallinari is one of Italy's NBA players who will face Gilas Pilipinas, who are both in Group D of the World Cup group stage.

The group also includes powerhouse team Serbia, and Afrobasket champion Angola.

Gallinari compiled a career-best 19.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game for the Los Angeles Clippers last season.
