Malacañang, Pacquiao mourns the death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant

Palace and various personalities extended their condolences to the passing of NBA player and basketball legend Kobe Bryant on Sunday (Monday in Manila).

Bryant's helicopter crashed in Los Angeles, United States, along with eight others. No one survived the riders.

Bryant is with his 13-year-old son, Gianna Maria, who has also been confirmed dead.

"The Office of the President is saddened by the sad news of the death of NBA superstar and legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter in a helicopter crash," presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement in English.

He said the player often goes to the Philippines and is loved by his Filipino fans.

The 41-year-old has visited the Philippines seven times.

"He's a master of his craft. He lost one of the legendary players in the basketball world," he added.

"The Palace extends its condolences to his family, friends, co-workers, loved ones and orphans around the world. We share your loss."

Meanwhile, fellow athletes and boxers also regretted Sen. Manny Pacquiao is losing Kobe, whom he considers best friends.

He added that Bryant had previously visited the "national fist" to practice in the past.

"I was shocked. "He's my friend."

Sen also extended their condolences to his disappearance. Imee Marcos, Sen. Risa Hontiveros and Sen. Sonny Angara.

Some showbiz personalities are also unmoved by the incident, though some of them are not basketball fans.

"In fact, I don't know anything about basketball but I'm saddened by the death of Kobe Bryant and his son," said Kapuso star Maine Mendoza.

"We will pray for his election, especially his wife, and the rest of the family orphaned by this tragedy. The ski of life ... we do not know what will happen next."
