Philippine Team will bag 8 golds at SEAG from skateboarding

Eight gold medals could be acquired by the skateboarding for the country's campaign at the upcoming 30th Southeast Asian Games in November.

Skateboard and Roller Sports Association of the Philippines (SRSAP) president Monty Mendigoria says skateboard athletes like Asian Games gold medalist Margielen Didal will be able to win the biennial meet.

"Eight golds for skateboarding for the SEA Games," Mendigoria said in an interview at the PSC Hour yesterday. “I'm not exaggerating. It's just that I know our athletes. and I know they can get eight golds for this for the town, ”he said.

Mendigoria said Thailand and Indonesia were the only countries that could compete against the country's five sports against the Philippines, including Malaysia, Singapore, and Myanmar.

“Actually Vietnam and Cambodia would be nice too, in case they wouldn't send an entry for SEA Games. So I know we can get 8 golds from skateboarding, ”Mendigoria said.

In the meantime, he also called on the Local Government Units (LGUs) to start promoting skateboarding sports in the country by creating a skatepark in the country.

According to Mendigoria, by introducing skateboarding to young people, it is possible for the country to develop high-quality skateboard athletes like Didal.

“This is the reason why I am going around the LGUs, proposing to have a skatepark in every barangay. The Olympics would like to tap new generations of athletes and skateboarding is a millennial sport, ”he said.
