Handre Pollard played a significant role in the win as he converted try and four penalties, while an unconverted score from Bongi saw the Sprinkboks to a 24-13 lead in the first half after Argentina had taken the early lead through Santiago Cordero.

The South Africans turned the screw after the break, with Pollard having a second try and taking his tally for the match to 31; which equals Morne Steyn’s record for most individual points in a single match.

The win ensures South Africa had their first title since winning the Tri-nations competition in 2009. The Sprinkboks went into the match knowing that avoiding defeat against Argentina would secure the title as New Zealand lost to Australia earlier in the day.

Starting the match, South Africa fell behind when a kick from a Argentina player caught the defence unaware and Cordero sprinted in to dot for a try, which Sanchez converted.

However, in the 9th minute, Pollard started the party for the visitors with a long range penalty and they went ahead after a driving maul from line out saw hooker Bongi dot the ball down.

Sanchez and Pollard exchanged penalties afterwards but Pollard took the Boks ahead before halftime as he took a pass from teammate Faf de Klerk and finished for a try which he converted.

He added a fifth penalty shortly after restart and the Boks had to defend firmly as Argentina battled but a solid move from winger Makazole in which he started and ended it ended Argentina's hope of coming back and Pollard converted an attack that was finished by wide nan Kolbe after Steyn broke the line and set the attack on motion.
