The last time the two teams met, it ended with a real slap in the face of Barcelona as Bayern Munich humiliated them by a full 8-2. Tonight, the Catalans had the opportunity to take revenge, but with a decimated offensive, they had a difficult task ahead of them against an incredibly strong German team.

After twenty minutes, Marc-André Ter Stegen had a good opportunity to reduce the scoreline for Leroy Sané with a chance created through the middle, but wasn't cool enough. The German pressed the ball with his good left leg, but Ter Stegen got a strong hand on the end.

Ten minutes later it was about to go wrong for the home team again when Jamal Musiala was suddenly completely free in the box for a finish, but the young German was just a second too long to press the trigger, and then Gerard Pique reached down and got blocked at the last minute.

After a little over half an hour of play, the guests took the lead. Thomas Müller then had a third chance at scoring, but a last ditch challenge made sure that he didnt. Unfortunately for the home side, Ter Stegen had already gone to one side and he just had to watch while the ball sailed in goal to 1-0.

The home team was fine with the match, but the great chances did not come to pass. Ronald Araujo stood for the home side's biggest chance in the first half, when he was completely free after a free kick, but the midfielder sent his header far past goal.

The Germans could therefore go to the break with a lead.

Sané was given a chance to change things around. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. However, the German winger did not manage to place his finish further enough, and Ter Stegen saved the attempt with a good foot parade. Just a few minutes later, however, things went wrong for the home team again.

The Barcelona defense did not get pushed out of the field, and after a blocked finish, Musiale sent an excellent attempt away, which, however, took the post. The ball bounced off the field, and here Robert Lewandowski came first and sent it into the empty net, and then the visitors were ahead 2-0.

Lewandowski was not finished, and six minutes before time, the Polish striker seriously decided things. Alphonso Davies served the ball at the feet of substitute Serge Gnabry and he sent a hard finish on the bar. Once again, the ball smoked back out in the middle of the home team's field, and again Lewandowski stood ready. The striker just took a move to make room for a finish and slammed into the ball. The ball was just straightened out and stroked in behind a chanceless Ter Stegen to 3-0, which was also the result of the match.

Barcelona really kept Messi too long and now they will need a while to rebuild.
