De Ligt will not start Holland opening game
Holland had to admit that Virgil van Dijk did not manage to get ready for the final round, and right after the squad was taken out, the normal first goalkeeper, Jasper Cillessen went down with an injury. Now the Netherlands must do without another of the regular starters in the defensive, as Juventus player Matthijs de Ligt will not be ready for the opening match against Ukraine tomorrow. The announcement came from the Dutch national coach, Frank de Boer, earlier today:
Matthis is not with the team. Hopefully it will be a long tournament for us and we really need him. If it had been the final we were going to play, we would probably have chosen to use him, but right now we will not take any unnecessary chances.
The 21-year-old midfielder suffered a groin injury a week ago during the team's training camp. Since then, de Ligt has not trained fully with the team, and he will therefore not come into play for the opening match in Amsterdam. Matthijs de Ligt played 36 matches for Juventus this season and he already has 27 international caps on his back.
With the recent injury crises hitting the Dutch national team I don't think this is the best time for them to have this kind of news,but of all that I still hope they have a good campaign and wishing all those players quick recovery
Not a news the dutch team would love. After Van Djik now de Ligt. Hope the backline cope well with the absence of it's two top defenders
It is serious. Netherland lost two good defender to injury. The injury will affect their squad no doubt about that...
But i see them qualifying frombgroup stage
