Argentine wizard Lionel Messi has done it again and written himself into the history books again. On the night of Friday, the 34-year-old world star delivered a fabulous performance as he scored the hat-trick in Argentina's 3-0 victory over Bolivia in the South American World Cup qualifiers.

Thus, Lionel Messi is now the highest scoring South American football player ever with 79 goals under the national team. The previous record belonged to the legendary Brazilian striker Pelé, who reached 77 goals during his national team career.

The record is not without significance for the Argentine world star, who immediately after the match was very moved and admitted that it has long been a dream for him to set himself on this particular record.

I was really excited and I really wanted to be able to enjoy it. I've been waiting for this for so long and that's what I came for and I've always dreamed of it. It is a unique moment for me after waiting so long for it, Messi said after the match according to Reuters.
