KAMOHILO MAHALATI, South Africa (Reuters) - South Africa's Olympic footballer of the year won the African Player of the Year award on Saturday night against Zambia at the Peace Stadium in Cairo.

The match ended in a goalless draw, with Cote d'Ivoire leading Group B with 3 points after beating defending champions Nigeria.

Egypt will host the African Under-23 Championship until November 22, and the top three will qualify for next year's Olympic Games in Tokyo.

He admitted in a press statement after receiving the award that his joy is lacking, as a result of not winning.

He said: "We must win in the next two meetings to resolve to qualify for the role of the four as a step towards the rise of the Tokyo Olympics."
