This is The fifth “All-African Coaches” AFCON final

avatar

It has really been long ver since the Africa Cup of Nations Tournament(AFCON) had an all Africa coaches final!!

The last time this happened was in 1998 when Egypt, coached by Mahmoud el Gohary, defeated Ephraim 'Jomo' Sono-coached South Africa 2-0 in Ouagadougou.

What is more fascinating in tomorrow's final is that both of these coaches were former players in this same teams!!!!

Djamel Belmadi(Algeria)

He was a gifted midfielder at the time who could terrorise defenses with his sleek passing skills. He had a stint in Manchester City when he was lonaed from Marseille in 2003 and later had two seasons with Southampton.

He played for 10 clubs in total in France, England and Qatar and also is also capped 20 times by Algeria where he scored 5 goals.

The Algerian team has impressive under Belmadi in this tournament with them having five wins and a draw, 12 goals scored and two conceded, on their way to Friday’s final against Senegal.

Let us wait and see what transpires tomorrow in the final.

Aliou Cisse (Senegal)

The Senegalese coach has unfinished business in the AFCON, he missed his sport kick in t Mali 2002 AFCON against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions.

I really wish Senegal wins to that pain of him missing a penalty can heal hahahaha.

It would be so painful if he loses again as a coach. It has to be noted that the 2002 edition was Senegal's first final and this is the second!!!

In Gabon, the team failed to make the final but he was retained in the role. His team came close to being the only African country to make it out of the group stages in Russia.

Cisse kick-started his professional career in France playing for clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Montpellier, Lille and Sedan.

You can read more about Cisse's career by checking out this well explained africanews article, make it a point to check it out.

So whatever the result of the game tomorrow, the trophy will be won by an African coach!!!
