No es fácil para ningún atleta reincorporarse a buen nivel después de tanto tiempo fuera de las canchas, un total de 405 días sin actividad y tener que recuperarse de dos operaciones en su rodilla derecha, lo hace toda una hazaña.
Roger hizo acto de presencia en la cancha central del Complejo Khalifa Internacional de Tenis y Squash en Doha, Catar, unos minutos tarde por la prolongación del partido entre Thiem y el Ruso Karatsev al que venció también en tres set.
Pero amigos, esto no fue para nada tarea fácil ya que el Británico Daniel Evans luchó desde un principio y hasta el final del encuentro, lo que habla muy bien de él, quien se veía muy bien enfocado y realizando muchos tiros ganadores, en ningún momento mostró presión o nerviosismo, todo lo contrario, jugó a un alto nivel, llevando el primer set a un tie break bien ajustado que pudo definir Roger al final en 10-8 para quedar 7/6.

En el tercer set logramos ver más rapidez en el encuentro y estuvo lleno de emociones y buenos puntos por parte de ambos jugadores, incluso vimos intercambios muy rápidos cerca de la red, lo que habla muy bien de la velocidad que mostraron ambos contendientes, sin embargo en los últimos 3 juegos de ese tercer set, el Reloj Suizo dio muestras de su nivel y de su experiencia, cerrando el match con mucha clase, lanzando un backhand en paralelo que dejó literalmente parado a Evans, que no pudo hacer nada para contrarrestarlo. El resultado final fue 7/6 ; 3/6 ; 7/5
Haber ganado un partido cerrado y competitivo hizo más vistoso y esperanzador el regreso de su majestad del tenis quien es actualmente el Nº 5 del ranking ATP.
