It was a tale of two vastly different games we witnessed last night as the Champions League returned in style. While in one match both teams went at it all out cat and dog style, in the other one was comfortable enough to sit back and defend for over 80 minutes of the game, both however ended on the same note with one team taking the maximum points.

Athletico Madrid surely spent over 80 minutes of the match last night against Liverpool camped in their own half. We can say it worked according to their game plan exactly as a 3rd minutes goal was all they needed to win the game. They reverted to an all out defence, with all their 10 players forming their 4-4-2 formation while camped in their half. Liverpool definitely had the lion share of possession but couldn't seem to break the resolute Athletico defence and we will wait to see what Klopp's men can conjure up in the second leg of the fixture at Anfield.

In the other game on the night both Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint Germain went at it all out leaving nothing on the field. But it rested on the young should of teenage sensation Eric Haaland to ensure that his Borussia Dortmund side won the match and he grabbed a brace for himself, continuing his good run of form in the Champions League. While Neymar scored a goal for the defending French Champions, it was not enough to secure a win and Borussia Dortmund nipped this one 2-1.
