19 million fans registered: the madness of the Euro tickets

The UEFA Champions League 2020 frenzy: UEFA today released the record-breaking figures for the Euro 2020 ticket lottery, which will be held at the end of July, according to UEFA. More than 19 million tickets have been registered for the lottery. This is almost twice as much as the equivalent of tickets for the tournament, held in France in 2016, where 11.6 million ticket applications were registered.

Fans who registered for the lottery expect a tense wait for the ticket announcement, which is due to go out by mid-August.

However, data released by UEFA can already tell who is expecting tougher competition for each ticket: nearly 2 million ticket applications have been submitted to the final of the tournament, which will take place on July 12 at Wembley Stadium, so that each ticket will have 44 fans. A million applications were submitted to the opening game of the tournament.

Then, the most sought after games in the tournament are the competitions in Munich and Amsterdam.

Another interesting statistic concerns the unwillingness of the fans to get to the Games in Russia, which hosted the 2018 World Cup. Perhaps because of the experiences they underwent during the tournament that Russia hosted, nearly 80 percent of those who register for the Eurogames in Russia are local. This is the highest number of local registrants among all host countries, indicating the fear of foreign fans arriving in the country.
