Substantial reinforcement to San Antonio, this time on the lines. The team announced Monday that Tim Duncan joins the coaching team and will work alongside Greg Popovic. The club's legendary past player will come along with Will Hardy, who has been working at Spurs since 2010.

Duncan, who played for 19 seasons at the club after being selected as the first pick in the 1997 draft by Popovic, retired in the summer of 2016. "It's just fitting that after 19 years in which I have served faithfully as Tim Duncan's assistant, he will return me a favor."

In the past, Popovich, 70, described Duncan (43) as his son. "We are more soulful souls alive than basketball," he added when the 21-player player's shirt was pulled out. Together they won 1,001 victories in almost two decades.

Duncan, the club's greatest player, was named first in the 1997 draft and played for 19 seasons in Spurs, leading the team to five championships. He won two consecutive MVP titles, three times in the MVP title and was chosen 15 times for the All-Star game, 10 times for the first team of the season and eight times for the defense team. Duncan scored 19 points and averaged 10.8 rebounds per career game.
