AFCON 2019: Who Can Get The Ultimate Prize?

Piece de Resistance

It has been a long journey. 24 teams across Africa who had hitherto battled qualifications find themselves going head to head in matches that tested their resolve. It was every man for himself and play-time has taken its toll on the teams, most of which have now been eliminated. Nigeria, yesterday, were able to seal a third place after a face-off with Tunisia. Now, with only two teams teams left, who snatches the ultimate prize?

Senegal are a good team. It is not an easy feat, making a run to the finals after herculean matches but they did. They've stuck with their disciplined play all along and it has worked for them. Although they have not scored that number of delightful goals, they still have won their matches. Truth be told and quite frankly, I see their game to be revolved around one player, Sadio Mane. Maybe it's just me, I don't know but it is not far from the truth. He always seems to be that Hero that rescues them when they find themselves cornered and although it has worked, It may not always do. They may get lucky tomorrow though who knows.

Algeria on the other hand are the favourites to win this, statistically. (Not based on previous years though). They look to be the better side to win this. I mean, they have a great defensive record, having conceded only twice in the tournament and an equally excellent attacking force. The highest number of goals per team goes to them. They play with such coordination. They create a lot of chances, mostly out of nothing and chances beget goals so we should expect them to put up a good fight against Senegal.

Both MAHREZ and MANE are tied up on 3 goals in the goal scoring charts, with Odion Ighalo of Nigeria topping with five. Can any of the two score more? Can they compromise his comfort at the top? Well, I guess we'll have to find tomorrow when the showdown begins 8:00pm GMT tomorrow. We're expecting to see nothing short of an enthralling and entertaining match. Peace!
