Arsenal's Relatively Quiet Summer, Do we have everything we need?
This summer has seen different transfers, shocking moves, interesting links, fair swaps and rumours, followed by more rumours. Everyone is getting their share of the frenzy; From Griezzman's move to Barcelona To Hazard's move to Real Madrid. It's equally the same story when we go to the Premier league, coaches are doing all they can to pad up their teams before the next season comes knocking. But what is Arsenal's position in all these?
The Rumours! "Arsenal is close to getting Wilfred Zaha" "Arsenal is no where near getting Zaha" is all we have been hearing. Although they were able to seal a deal for Aaron Ramsey at Juventus with him taking the No 8 shirt. We were largely inconsistent with our wins last season, taking one step forward and five steps backward. So naturally, one would expect the coach to ferret the transfer market for a new addition to the squad. But really, do we need another player? Do we have everything we need already?
Sincerely, I think so. We have only just failed in utilizing our star-studded squad and also maximizing our potentials. Could it be the coach? No! We've just had a change and of course, it's a step in the right direction but this changes needs enough time to manifest so the problem is not from the coach. The players really don't have that winning mentality, they don't play hungry, they don't give that desire, that fighting spirit that we need to get us where we need to be.
Just imagine last season, we could have qualified for champions league but we missed out on the top spots. We had a lifeline, a failsafe but we didn't go for it. It was Chelsea - who had nothing to lose - that took it all. The final was utterly embarrassing that I began to wonder if we were actually playing. Football is also about passion, drive and the never-give-up mentality and we are really lacking in that aspect. The problem of this team cannot be solved with another addition, nor another change of hands. Our players need mental rehabilitation from the coach, we are not underdogs and we are not a bad reference point. We don't need a change of hands, we don't need another addition but I'm quite not sure if we need a board overhaul as seen in the recent protests against Kreonke.
