Why Is Football The Most Loved sport?
What exactly is the distinctive feature? What separates it from the rest? what fuels the love? what populates its fan base? What increases the popularity? In a world where we have a diverse range of sporting activities, why does it stand out from the rest?
It's really an enchanting, beautiful and enthralling game. 22 players, 11 from each team slug it out on a pitch with a ball to be maneuvered with their feet. The end game? The back of the net. I can't really say for sure that this is why football is the most loved sport, but I can assume that it is the most interesting of all sports. Truly, this is where the issue of personal preference come into play as there are different strokes for different folks but then, football has the highest number of lovers because I think, they find it the most interesting.
Talk about the high-level skill that needs to be mastered, the dexterity that needs to be exhibited, the speed, the accuracy, the power, the precision that needs to be displayed in the whole of 90 minutes. It sure worths the top spot. Now we have the fans who push up the entertainment the sport gives up a notch, cheering and jeering, wooing and booing their players, the atmosphere all through the period of the gameplay is always electric especially during football tournaments like: The champions league, World Cup, El Classicos, London Derbies, AFCON, Copa Del Rey and all.
What about the unity that football brings? For the whole of the 90 minutes, rivals set aside their differences just to relish the moment, foes share a beer just to enjoy every bit of it. Nigeria is a good case study. On a normal day, we are either Tribal Shaming ourselves online or 'savaging' ourselves offline but when football comes, we all come together and unite with one voice. "Goal!!!" That sound that ripples through the country when Nigeria finds the back of the net is the one voice of unity and utter agreement with the status quo. So Yes, football has done quite enough to be the most loved sport and it is definitely the most interesting, captivating, enchanting, beautiful, immersive, absorbing, suspenseful game and sport there ever is, and maybe, ever will be.
