John obi Mikel retires from international duty

The player suffered an injury in Egypt during the group stage and was unable to play in knockout stage that kept him in the bench.

The former chelsea man announces his retirement from international football after the super eagles won the bronze medal against tunisia in Egypt.

However, John obi Mikel made his debut for Nigeria in 2005 against libya the same year he played in the under20 world cup that took place in netherland after leading the team to the finals but lost to Argentina in the final.

John obi Mikel has played for Nigeria in the senior world cup twice and have also played four nation cup tournament for the super Eagles.

John obi Mikel was also part of the team that won the nation's cup for Nigeria in 2013 under the late Stephen keshi.

At the age of 32, it’s time for me to retire from the national team and let the youth take over, who’ve done an amazing job securing a bronze medal at Afcon 2019.

He said this after their final campaign at Afcon tournament in Egypt.
