Chelsea silences critics despite losing the trophy to Liverpool.

I have to admit I joined the wagon of Chelsea critics after watching the game against Manchester United on Sunday where they were thrashed 4-0. Lampard's team selection and the performance of the players in that game were questioned. But they came into the Liverpool game and proved all doubters wrong when the score line ended square both at full time and extra time after which Liverpool beat them on penalties.

Yesterday in my post I stated that Chelsea should give us a good game even though they do lose against Liverpool. But then Chelsea did give us more than just a good game, they went for a win and they almost shocked everyone when they came close to winning the penalties.

Chelsea caused many problems for the Champions of Europe, Liverpool. The players looked totally different from the ones that lost to United. I actually do believe United wouldn't have stood a chance against the same Chelsea side that played yesterday night especially considering some of the starters who impressed in this game started on the bench against United.

Kante moved well in the game, with Lampard choosing to play him in the same attacking position he played last season. Last season he didn't impress much and it was attributed to the position Sarri had opted to play him despite being a defensive midfielder. But Lampard stuck to playing him in the same position Sarri played him and he became a major threat for Liverpool's backline whenever he held the ball.

I singled out Kepa, Pullisic, Giroud, Pedro and Emerson as the other players that played a good game. And on any other day would beat this same Liverpool side. Liverpool started with a strong line up which earlier was missing Mane but he too came in in the second half.

Chelsea should pick the positives for this game and go forward to challenge for the Premier League title which many had written it off from.
