Steve Smith’s record breaking Ashes series

I must admit, I haven't followed the cricket in recent years as closely as I did in the past. The whole ball-tampering scandal had put me off cricket until the recent World Cup. But this Ashes series has been too enthralling for me to ignore. After returning from a year long ban, you would think Steve Smith would be at least a little rusty. But Smith isn't just any player.

What an incredible Ashes Steve Smith has had! With a lowest score of 80 in 6 innings, and a total of 751 runs so far, he has entered into the record books as one of the greats in terms of stats for this series. From the hundreds he scored in the first test, Smith has never looked back. Even when he got knocked out by Archer in the second test, Smith has bounced back to take his heroics to a new level with a double century in the fourth test. Throughout this series, Smith is averaging over 125 runs in his 6 innings, and with one more innings to go in the final test, who knows what additional records he will break.

Some people say that test cricket is boring, but when you come across an Ashes series like the one we've witnessed so far, then it's just as engaging as any other form of sport. The courage, fight-backs and individual heroics has kept me fascinated throughout the past few weeks. And for a numbers-nerd like myself, the stats Smith has put up this series has been incredible. And we'll soon find out if he will break more records in the fourth innings of the final test.
