Johnriel “Quadro Alas” Casimero defends his interim World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight title with a brutal 10th round knockout victory over Mexican Cesar Ramirez on Saturday night at the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila.

The victory signaled Casimero's desire to challenge regular WBO bantamweight champion Zolani Tete in South Africa.

Casimero and Tete are expected to have an encounter before the end of this year.

Casimero, 30, a former world champion, knocked Ramirez ahead of the 3rd round with a right-handed fist that was struck after a fist fight with two boxers.

Ramirez, however, was able to recover quickly and find that it was not exactly a loss.

Casimero also registered a knockdown in the 5th round but Ramirez complained that he had just lost his balance at the time.

Ramirez, 31, was aggressive in the 6th round and shook Casimero's world with vicious overhand hooks.

Casimero resisted Ramirez's attack and after that, Casimero's trainer Nonoy Neri ordered that Ramirez be attacked again.

“I said it right in the face. Target the body because I find it gives Ramirez a 'hit on the body,' Neri said in an interview at www.abs-cbnnews.com.

Casimero's two strong right punches in the 7th round knocked Ramirez out for the third time.

In the 9th round, Casimero had a serious attack on Ramirez's stomach.

“He pushed that face first because he said he was always open. I told the 9th he would listen to me, he would represent him. Good to hear, ”Neri added.

In the 10th round, a right-handed fist hit Ramirez's jaw causing it to be knocked to the ground.

Ramirez was recovering from his consciousness shortly after.

Casimero said his overweight did not affect his premature brakes on the scales during the official weigh-in.

Casimero needed to lose weight for two hours before he reached the weight limit of 118 pounds.

“There was no effect on the fight. If so, it was a little late but I didn't miss the training so I got the win, ”Casimero said.

Casimero, a native of Ormoc City, climbed to a 28-4, 19KOs record while Ramirez fell to 18-4, 11 KOs.
