The Olympian weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz is thankful for receiving financial support for her upcoming campaign at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Diaz received the sponsorship package with the signing of Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Butch Ramirez and Phoenix Petroleum vice-president Raymond Zorilla in a memorandum of understanding at a ceremony held in Malacanang.

According to Diaz, the P2-million won by the private company has been a big thing for the Philippines to earn the coveted gold medal in the prestigious tournament.

In addition, Diaz also receives P48,000 monthly allowance from the PSC in addition to housing, food, and foreign training allowances.

Diaz said his receipts from the government and the private sector were sufficient.

"I can't do it alone," Diaz said. "It's hard to qualify for the Olympics but I'm committed to winning and doing my best."

It was June when the 28-year-old Olympian appealed for help in his preparation for the Olympics.

Meanwhile, Ramirez told Bombo Radio that Diaz is the "best Filipino athlete" at the moment.

“Based on the record, the last medals she got were the silver medal during the 2016 Rio Olympics, and the gold medal last 2018 Asian Games. At the moment, there are no Filipinos who have those kinds of medals, ”Ramirez said.
