The Philippine women's rugby 7s team is aiming for gold in their flight to Jakarta on Wednesday (Aug. 7) in the 2019 Asia Rugby Women's Trophy Series.

"This is a preparation tournament for the SEA Games," Volcanoes team manager Jake Letts said at the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at the Amelie Hotel-Manila on Tuesday.

The team is poised to miss their silver medal at last year's competition.

“In 2018, our girls played some very good rugby sevens. This year, we are looking to replicate that performance and go one step further, ”said coach Chris Everingham.

The coach added that the team is undergoing intense training to make it even stronger.

TeamPh's Pool A bracket includes Guam, Indonesia, Brunei and Chinese Taipei. At Pool B, participants from South Korea, India, Laos, Bangladesh and Qatar will compete.
