PSC-PSI launches a grassroots coaching program in Biliran

About 150 coaches, trainers and sports officials participated in the four-day program of the Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Sports Institute in Biliran and received advanced coaching skills in athletics, badminton, boxing, taekwondo and swimming held at Biliran Province State University.

Veterans athletes, national coaches and officials will attend the event at the second Grassroots Sports Coaching Clinic and Consultative Sports Planning.

In his message, PSC Visayas Sports Coordinator Nonnie Lopez emphasized the importance of correct and scientific coaching approach to grassroots sports.

“The next generation of Filipino athletes lies in the grassroots. The PSC and PSI are here to impart dynamic and scientific techniques that would make our coaching more effective at this level, ”said Lopez.

“We thank the PSC and PSI for this sports clinic that will surely elevate our grassroots program in Biliran. Hopefully we can get the gold in the five fields involved in this clinic, ”added DepEd Region 8 OIC-Assistant School Division Superintendent Crista Joy Torabila.

Meanwhile, 50 local government officials from eight provincial municipalities including Lopez, PSC Mindanao Sports Coordinator Ed Fernandez and Dr. Gemima Valderrama of the Department of Education as resource speakers.

The Grassroots Sports Coaching Clinic and Consultative Sports Planning will next be held in Sorsogon City and Bukidnon Province on September 4 to 8 and September 16 - 22, respectively.

The first edition of the program was held in Calbayog, Samar from March 25 to 30.
