Cam Newton given green light on trade

It's been a bit of a strange situation over at Carolina in regards to star quarterback Cam Newton. The administration, of the club that has had a mostly amicable relationship with the 30 year old QB who was the MVP of the league in 2015.

The situations is a bit tense now, because it doesn't appear as though Newton wants to leave, he is more or less being pushed out the door

While it isn't set in stone just yet, Carolina have been showing a tremendous amount of interest in Teddy Bridgewater, a former Vikings and later Saints QB. Many people are unaware that Bridgewater even plays for the Saints since he is all but completely overshadowed by starting QB, Drew Brees.

This is where it all becomes a bit interesting or barring that, dramatic. Cam Newton is known for being a bit of a "diva" when it comes to criticism or really anything related to the game of football and while they have done a relatively good job keeping this out of the public eye, he has blown up at the management on numerous occasions as well as publicly shame his offensive line for not protecting him well enough.

Some of this is understandable and Newton would regularly get rocked in games but this has a lot to do with his daring play style where he believes he can transform into a running back anytime he is out of the pocket. Many other QB's would not take these sorts of risks. It is what makes Cam so valuable, and also what makes him a bit of a liability, particularly as he gets older and more breakable.

So Cam responded to the news that he has been "given permission" to seek a trade with a bit of an outburst claiming that "he never wanted this! and for the team to stop trying to change the narrative." I think Cam should probably let his manager, or Jesus take the wheel, or else he would end up without a team. His base rate, so to speak is around 19 million a year, and this makes his options very limited.

There is some speculation that he could end up with the Patriots, but to be honest with you Newton's play style doesn't really mesh well with the current lineup they got going in New England... or maybe it could work since the Pats don't really have a lot of passing options at the moment. Who knows! Belichek has praised Newton in the past and is an admitted admirer. I suppose it could happen.

At the end of the day it came as a bit of a surprise that Newton was being released, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up, if anywhere at all.

What do you think?
