Hockey player needs 90 stitches after in-game accident

Ice hockey is a brutal sport that I never played because I'm not Canadian or Russian. Just kidding. I know other countries get involved it just wasn't consistently cold enough where I am from.

However, I do admire how tough as nails these players are. These fellas compete in a sport where fighting is part of the game and you don't even get fined for participating in it. There are certain unofficial rules of the fights and all the players, regardless of how angry they are, don't violate. It's fun and the fans love it.

However, that is not what happened to Johnny Boychuk in yesterday's game vs. the Montreal Canadians.

Johnny is a defenseman for the New York Islanders and the incident was a complete accident as Artturi Lehkonen fell and his skate came up in the air and went right across Boychuk's face. Boychuck initially fell down and was grasping his face and then got back up and took himself off the ice, and no blood was visible on the ice.

This isn't as graphic as you might thing so watch it without fear

I can find no photos of his face from the locker room, but apparently it took a plastic surgeon and 90 stitches to sew up his eyelid. He is very fortunate that nothing happened to his eye. He later tweeted this and it just shows how tough these guys are if the joke was intentional.

I've had to get maybe 10 stitches in my entire life and this guy will probably be back on the ice in a week or so because that's how tough these fellas are.
