Korean Zombie needs eye surgery

After his victory over Frankie Edgar, where the "Zombie" made it look as though he is one of the best in the division and definitely has a chance to rise to the top, he revealed that he was having vision problems in his last fight in Korea and has had "issues" for quite some time.

It's almost impossible to not like this guy. He is as humble as they come in victory and he is the pride of South Korea as well as a great deal of Asia, who struggle to have a real presence in the UFC and MMA in general.

The middleweight division is one of the most exciting weight classes in UFC, as it seems that anyone in the top 6 could probably take the belt at any time. Sitting on number 4 at the moment is none other than Chan Sung Jung who is otherwise known as the Korean Zombie.

Chan defeated now ranked #6 Frankie Edgar with what appeared to be relative ease and his decision to take his almost certain upcoming title bout seriously is in my mind, a very good idea. He could probably press Volkanovski and Dana White for a shot at the strap this year, but he wants to be at 100% when that time comes.

Therefore, Zombie has determined that he is going to get eye surgery in Arizona in the coming weeks. He has not been very specific about but indicates it isn't a major surgery (is there such a thing as a "not major" eye surgery) and will only be out of action for a few months. He will be out of the octagon, but still in training until around July or August.

I consider "Zombie" to be one of the most exciting personalities in the entire sport and hope that this surgery is successful not only because he seems like an all-around good guy, but because he does a tremendous amount for the Asian fans and this is something that the UFC and Dana White certainly recognize as valuable.

Will he get the title shot this year? I'm guessing not since a Holloway rematch or a Brian Ortega shot at the gold might be the more fair thing to do. It really wouldn't surprise me if we see him going for the top prize in the next year or so though.
