Australia in Command After Labuschange's Double Ton

Labuschange continued his stellar run of 2019 and cracked his maiden double ton today at the SCG. Labuschange scored 1104 in 2019, the highest number of runs scored by a batsman in 2019 in test cricket. He was Australia's best batsman of 2019 and begun his new year with a spectacular double century.

He has now scored 4 hundreds in the last 7 innings and there is no sign of any dip in his form. It keeps getting better and better. He went past Steve Smith and now has the best average in test cricket. However, he has only played 14 tests and there is still a long way to go. Most of the runs he has scored have come while playing at home. It will be interesting to see how well he plays when Australia will play in England and sub continent.

Australia scored 454 runs in their first innings with Marnus Labuschange scoring 215 runs. He was supported well by Smith who scored 63 runs. Labuschange reached his double ton when he edged a ball from Grandhomme through the slips which went for four runs. Both New Zealand openers looked solid in their first innings as the day ended with New Zealand being scoring 63 runs without losing any wicket.

New Zealand suffered a huge blow when Kane Williamson, Henry Nicholas and Santner were ruled out of the test because of sickness. Tom Latham is leading the Kiwis in this match.
