New Zealand are on a brink of another humiliating loss at the hands of hosts, Australia. After scoring a mammoth 454 in the first innings, Australia restricted New Zealand to 251 and hence gained a lead of 203 runs. They could have enforced the follow on but Paine was to bat again, perhaps for the sake of lower order batsmen so that they can spend more time on the crease.

New Zealand were very well placed at 117 for the loss of Tom Blundell Lyon had other ideas as he kept chipping away with wickets at regular intervals restricting the visitors to a mere 251. Nathan Lyon took five wickets, first time against the Kiwis. Skipper in charge, Tom Latham fell short of a half century by just one run. However, it was the debutant, Glenn Phillips who was the center of attention when New Zealand were batting. He bats much like Steve Smith and more importantly scores runs for his team like Steve Smith does. Most of the Kiwi batters got starts but none of them capatalized on them.

Australia are 40 for the loss of no wicket with both Warner and Burns looking comfortable at the crease. Australia have a lead of 243 runs and they would be looking to score runs quickly and set a target of over 400 runs for the visitors.
