France came to the Principality Stadium looking for their first win over Wales in Cardiff since 2010 and they will be full of confidence having started their Six Nations campaign with two wins from two, and for the neutral, this game didn't disappoint.

Frances' fly-half Romain Ntamack's 17-point haul included a try, while full-back Anthony Bouthier and second-row Paul Willemse also crossed as France came out on top in a breathless Six Nations encounter in Cardiff that ended Wales' title hopes. It was Wales' first home Six Nations defeat for three years and France's second win in 10 games against their opponents.

Defending champions Wales responded with 18 points from Dan Biggar including a late try, with Prop Dillon Lewis also crossed for his first international try. Wales nearly nicked it at the end, but their hopes of victory were dashed largely to poor decisions in crucial moments of the game.

While Wales put in huge efforts, it has to be said that their overall game was very predictable.

A definite try scoring opportunity was deliberately halted with a knock-on, preventing Wales from crossing in the corner, which may or may not have changed this game. The letter of the law states a "penalty try" and a yellow card should have been awarded, but the referee just gave a scrum to Wales.

The captivating contest was Wales' second defeat in three matches under new coach Wayne Pivac and hopes of defending their Six Nations title appear to have disappeared. No-one can deny the fact that France deservedly won and are on the Grand Slam trail.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Pivac said: "We scrambled very well and we created at the end of the game with some players playing out of position. We showed a lot of character to come back and have an opportunity to steal it at the end."

France now remain on course for a first Grand Slam in 10 years after winning in Cardiff for the first time since 2010.

Having already seen of the English, Italians and now the Welsh, they must surely be favourites to pick up the trophy and finish undefeated as "grand Slam" champions.

England-vs-Ireland-Analysis.jpg

The only other team able to win the "grand Slam" are the Irish, but with a difficult trip to England this afternoon, I'd put my money on France finishing top this year and a cheeky bet on the finishing unbeaten too.
