The greatest spectacle of 2019 has come to its amazing conclusion. 20 sides began the tournament and it finished with South Africa lifting the trophy.

We've had some highs, we've had some lows, but every second of every game was fantastic.

Not only were the Japanese people brilliant hosts, but the Japanese team were the stand out team of the tournament; winning applause from fans, pundits and players alike for there effort and style of rugby. A credit to their nation, this Japanese team and the this tournament will be remembered fondly by the Rugby community for many, many, many years to come.

So the reason why you all come here. Here is MY team of the tournament :

15- Beauden Barrett (New Zealand)

He made more runs (86) than anyone else in the tournament and produced the second most clean breaks (12), while also chipping in with three tries.

14- Kato Matsushima (Japan)

Scored a hat-trick of tries in the opening game of the tournament and built from there. Looked dangerous everytime he had the ball in hand and wowed the crowds with his finishing throughout the tournament.

13- Manu Tuilagi (England)

Raw power with underestimated pace.... Keeps defenses honest with his hard running lines but also works incredibly hard in defence. A wrecking ball of a man that brings just the right amount of controlled violence to always be a threat.

12- Damian De Allande (South Africa)
1572175749938.jpg
Has the ability to ALWAYS get over the gainline and give his team "go-forward" ball.. 6ft2inch tall, 16st+, he's a physical presence with an eye for a gap and silky hands of needed.

11- A Randradra (fiji)
Semi-Radradra.jpg
Although Fiji failed to make it out of the group stage, his stats are still up there with the front runners. 62 carrier, 400m+ made and 8 clean line breaks. Where ever he popped up, he did damage and took 2 or 3 men to drag him down.

10- Hondre Pollard (South Africa)

A number 10 who does exactly what it says on the tin.... Some outside halfs might have more flair, some might have more pace, but Pollards ability to control a game and dictate the style of play was influential in the semi-finals and final when it really matters.

9- Faf De Klerk (South Africa)

The lynchpin in the tactical approach the Boks used to win the RWC. Often the smallest player on the field, but never gave an inch. He was key to marshaling his monstrous forwards pack and combining his attacking threat outwide.

8- Kieran Read (New zealand)

Grew stronger and better as the tournament progressed. A wrecking ball in defence and ball-carrying creator in attack. Never has a bad game

7- Sam Underhill/Tom Curry (England)

OK, I kind of bottled it... I couldn't split these 2 apart. Both were phenomenal and both put their bodies on the line. Both would make any other world 15 if it wasn't for the performance of the number 6..

6- Pieter-Steph Du Toit

Blindside flanker is MY position in rugby, and the South African has clearly molded his style of play after watching my many games. He's immovable over the ball and does all the unnoticed work around the field. Has just picked up player of the year for it too

5- Alun Wyn Jones "CAPTAIN" (Wales)

Man? Myth?? Legend.... Covers every blade of grass and his work rate is second to none. Finished the tournament as top tackle count, after making 79 tackles. Never stops, doesn't quit! Very knowledgeable and well respected throughout the Rugby World.

4- Maro Itoje (England)

The young England second row has been outstanding. An all-rounder; great at the line outs, great in the loose, great ball carrier, great scrumager and remarkable in defence. I wish he was Welsh!!

3- Kyle Sinckler (England)

Describes himself as a number 10 trapped in a number 3s body. He has the skill set of an outside half with the frame of a prop. Silky hands and fast feet, had a huge tournament and often popped up as first recieve.

2- Jamie George (England)

A very mobile hooker. His line-out throwing is always accurate and his scrummaging is tough. Dynamic, powerful and accurate exactly what you want from your hooker.

1- Tendai Mtarawira (South Africa)
610x99999.webp
The size of a small county, runs like a 100m sprinter, all at the age of 34! A very scary man to come up against, his power in the scrums kept England living off scraps in the final.

HONORABLE MENTIONS
Shota Hore - hooker(Japan). Joe Moody - prop (new zealand). Lood de Jager - second row (SA). J Tupric - flanker (Wales). Duane Vermeulen - no8 (SA)

Aaron Smith - scrum half (nz). Owen Farel - 10/12 (England) Josh Adams - wing (Wales).

Nice job.

Semi Radradra was on my radar for a while when he was playing for Parramatta in the National Rugby League in Australia. He was a superstar back then so no surprise to see him make your team.
