Preseason volleyball training: Basic techniques

In this series of articles I try to describe some training techniques that I have used during my years as a trainer of base categories and this last year with the SM2 team of Calasancias Coruña.

In this case will be described the first training of preseason 19/20. Initially we are going to start with technique trainings focused on individual actions.

Training begins with warm-up exercises for the joints starting at the ankles, knees, waist, neck, shoulders, etc.

Technical setting/passing with diagonal displacement

The players are placed on the diagonals of the field and set as they change sides. After a few minutes of this form in continuity is changed to passing. Pay attention to the technique of setting and passing, and that the positioning with respect to the ball is correct. Make the necessary corrections.

Crossfields diagonal defense

The players are placed on the field performing the defensive formation of the diagonal. The ball is thrown diagonally from the opponent's field, one of the 2/1 players places the other to make another attack on the opponent's diagonal. The attacks must be controlled since the essential objective is to go taking touch of ball and situation in the field.

It is important to have clear responsibilities in the conflict zone, it will always defend towards the external side of the field. The one of 2 will take forward of the line of 3 meters, the one of 1 will take his right side and the one of 6 will take all the zone of the bottom.

Then the same exercise will be performed by changing the diagonals.

Blocking technique: warming up

Players are placed in pairs at the net, one with the ball and one without. The ball must jump with the ball in his hands and place it over the net. The aim of the player without the ball is to mark the position of the block for the position shown by his team-mate. The objective of the ball player is to deceive his opponent with threats and breakdowns.

Blockade by pairs against the wall and trios on the field.

The trios that are in the field are placed two in front of the net in each field and another one from behind throws the ball so that the one that is in front shoots a penalty. The one in front must try to block the shot. The attacker will try to break the opponent's block and not dodge it.

Those on the wall are placed against the wall at half a metre. The one in the back throws the ball from the back. The player on the wall must try to catch the ball against the wall at the highest possible point.

There will be 10 repetitions in each of the positions.

Passing/spiking technique

The players are placed as in the diagram. One will be at fixed reception, another at placement. The rest of the players will rotate from serve to attack in position 4 or position 2. The serve must be of control over the receiving player. The placement for the high moment and the target of the spike will be either diagonal or bottom line.

To end the hour and a half of training will be left 10 minutes of free serving, with emphasis on finding good hit on previously determined serving area.
