The NBA Draft: More Evidence That I Am A Glutton For Punishment

I'm a Chicago Bulls fan. Logically I know that by this time tomorrow I'm going to be angry about how dumb the ownership and front office of this team is. They are not going to make any smart trades. They are not going to draft a future all-star. They are not going to build a time machine and literally do the opposite of everything they have done since January 14, 2022 when Lonzo Ball suffered a routine knee injury that turned into a 3 year odyssey to return to the court. And yet, I'm still going to watch the draft and against all common sense and evidence, I am going to hope the Bulls get closer to a championship (although to be far, they are so far away from one that nearly anything a normal basketball front office would do would make them closer to a championship... but this is not your average front office... they are far worse).

_Whoever the Bulls pick may be so embarrassed that he chooses to remain anonymous even after the draft. _

The Bulls currently hold the number 12 pick in what many people think is a nine player draft. That is about par for the course for this dumpster fire of a team. Rumors have been swirling that the Bulls might trade up to pick the sensational defensive center from Duke, Khaman Maluach. But they would probably need to jump up to one of the top six picks to do that. In all of the rumors I am reading, not a single writer has said exactly how the Bulls would pull off this miracle. They have nothing of value that would get them from pick 12 to pick 6. I guess they could hope the dumbest front office in the NBA would make a trade... but then they'd have to trade with themselves... and they would still lose that trade.

I have also heard that the player they want to trade most is Patrick Williams. NO SHIT! He has the worst contract in the NBA. They bid against themselves and over payed him by about $70 million dollars. They are the ones who overpaid him and even they hate him. What GM in his right mind is going to take an overpaid #$ overall pick bust? He's either hurt or ineffective. Not sure what team is in the market for that combo but I wish the Bulls luck in their endeavors.

Now a real trade possibility is Nikola Vucevic. I'm shocked he wasn't dealt to the Golden State Warriors at the trade deadline. He would have been a perfect fit for the vertically challenged Warriors. And all they would have had to give up was aguy they benched for most of the playoffs Jonathan Kuminga. With Kirstaps Porzingis being dealt to the Atlanta Hawks, both the Lkaers and the Warriors could use a center who can shoot and rebound. That just so happens to be what Vuc can do. So I do have a little hope that by this time tomorrow the Bulls get something for him.

This was Vuc's response to the question "What is the Bulls front office doing?"

Another real possibility is the aforementioned Lonzo Ball. Since the Bulls love to give away $20million a year contracts, the Bulls decided to hand one to a guy who played about 40 games for them in 4 years. My only hope is that they were doing that to make it easier to trade him. In the NBA you must have salary going both ways in a trade so maybe a team like Dallas, who is going to need a point guard until Kyrie Irving gets back after the all-star break will give up some assets for him so they can make the playoffs after giving Luka Doncic away fro practically nothing.

Well the draft starts in about 50 minutes. I need to go prep my voice so I don't blow out a vocal cord screaming at my TV when the Bulls inevitably do something stupid.

So what are you hoping for in tonight's NBA draft?

My wife and I were watching the pre draft show earlier and I was really surprised that Richardson isn't higher in the expected ranks. I'm a Michigan State fan, so I am a bit biased of course.

Didn’t end up watching. I’ll go catch up now that I’m home. I’m guessing cooper went first.

They selected Noa Essengue, a Frenchman who seems to have a good level but we'll have to see it in the NBA. I'm surprised that they want to trade a player they recently signed for 70 million. Seriously, that general manager completely swallowed it and now he doesn't know what to do to get rid of that contract.

When any franchise invests so much money for a player, it is their right to be informed about everything and the player should play with that team in any case if he is not involved in any legal activity. I have just read your post and I will get all the rest of the information now and then I will see what else is happening.

The Bulls barely moved compared to the Suns, Kings, Hawks, which are the teams that set out to find talent in the draft with changes in picks as well as players.

Good players will be recruited into the team, only then will the team be strong and win matches

I guess this has to be the fan dilemma. When our loyalty keeps us stuck to the franchise, even when their moves are so questionable.
