Tito Ortiz recent win in limbo, might be overturned

Tito Ortiz is one of the legends of the sport. His debut was at UFC 13 (we are in the 200's now) and while he isn't a massive draw and mostly fights in lower level promotions such as Bellator, the fact that this guy is 45 years old and still active, is impressive in its own right.

In a recent bout with the Combate Americas promotion, Tito submitted Alberto El Patron in the very first round with a rear-naked choke. Most people didn't even know this match happened, or that Combate Americas even existed. However, a win is a win.... until it isn't.

The organization is being very tight-lipped about what the problem is, but there is speculation that Ortiz may have failed a drug test and therefore the win has been temporarily been changed to "No Decision." This is the first time I have ever heard of this happening because mostly these sorts of things get sorted out completely before the go public.

Combate Americas claims they are also in the dark about what exactly is being investigated because the entire matter is being handled by the Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation.

If this is a drug test violation, the victory will of course be removed from Tito's record and I believe we would end up seeing Tito retire yet again, which is something the man has done on 3 other occasions. At 45, I think it is safe to guess that this next retirement might be the last one.

This would be a terrible end to Tito's legacy and unfortunately if he is guilty, it is likely that he will be remembered for this, instead of for the rest of his 23 year career which eventually saw him as the champion of the Light Heavyweight Division in UFC for nearly 3 years.

I didn't realize this guy was still relevant. I remember the first season of the UFC reality show where he went against Ken Shamrock. Great stuff!

i wouldn't say he is terribly relevant. He is still a big draw for smaller promotions based on his important history with the sport though, that is for sure.

i was always a bit "meh" about Ortiz, but this would be a real shame because in my mind at least he feels like one of the founders of the sport....
