Records And Record Holders
Michael Phelps's name is well known even for those who don't follow swimming events. He's another sport legend that made history as he's the most decorated Olympian of all time.
Winning a competition and getting a gold medal means a lot but setting a world record also means a lot. It means more to be able to hold it for several years. Michael Phelps has been holding the 200M fly record since 2009, which means 10 years.
Phelps’ record was set at the 2009 World Championships in Rome, when he finished in 1:51.51. It was a drop of three seconds over eight years. source
Kristóf Milák, the 19 year old Hungarian swimmer set a new record a couple of days ago, he clocked in at 1:50.73, shaving .78 seconds off Phelps’ time.
It is a huge achievement for the young Hungarian, he made history and now the whole World knows his name. But fame is not everything, now he has to live up to the expectations. No pressure, right?
Phelps was not happy about it but he had a very diplomatic answer when asked how does he feel about it. He said he's frustrated (I can understand that) but he couldn't be happier to see how he did it. Kristóf Milák could be happy as Phelps said the last 100m was was incredible. This is a great appreciation from the legend.
Milorad Čavić broke the 100m record in 2009 and Phelps took it back the next day. It's funny how these guys break record after record.

This is a stamp issued in Serbia in 2009 featuring Milorad Čavić.
There are several stamps issued featuring Phelps, this is just one of them.
Anyway, I really appreciate Phelps' carrier and he will always be a legend, no one is going to take away from him what he achieved but the show must go on, new records are set and he must accept that.
As about Kristóf Milák, I wish him success and hope to see him setting new records in the future.
