Today's post is about my analysis on why Norwich City FC have had A terrible season and why they are going down.

Before I begin at the time of writing this post, Norwich City is not yet relegated however They need Seven points from their remaining four fixtures and having lost all Seven previous fixtures since the restart and coming up against West Ham United, Chelsea, Burnley And Manchester city in their last four games I am almost certain that they will not pull off the great escape and will go down.

Norwich will be relegated if they lose to West Ham on Saturday

So let's begin All photos used below are my own I took a few months ago when passing Carrow Road home to Norwich City FC.

How they got Promoted

Norwich City FC stunned the country in the 2018/19 season when they finished first and where crowned champions of the Championship beating the favourites such as Leeds United, West Brom, Aston Villa and more.

Not only did they finish first they played arguably the best style of football they have ever played in many years they scored a whopping 93 goals that season and conceded 57. Norwich pulled of lot's of 3-2 victory's over opposition and scored lot's of last chance winners including scoring 3 goals inside the last 20 minutes of the game to come from 3-0 down and get level it 3-3 with the third goal happening to pretty much be the last kick of the game.

Despite them being able to score tons of goals their defence wasn't "solid" at the back and conceded 57 goals that was a big problem luckily Norwich was able to score more goals than they conceded but the premier league is a whole different ball game and Norwich knew the defensive line had to be worked on.

First Game of the Premier League season

Norwich's first game of the season was a big one it was against the Uefa Champions League winners Liverpool and Norwich lost 4-1 despite the loss critics and many fans complemented Norwich's play style and actually played some very good football during parts of the game. They then went on to face Newcastle and got their first win winning 3-1 before very narrowly losing to Chelsea and West Ham.

Manchester city game

In a game that was called a write off for Norwich, they were playing back to back champions of the league Manchester City who had a squad worth over 1 billion pounds They went into the games as huge underdogs but once again shocked the country when they stunned Manchester City winning 3-2, the fans went crazy everyone went crazy people thought this could be the season that city would comfortably stay up and feel safe in the league.

But... it went downhill

After the Manchester City game, they went winless in their following 17 fixtures drawing 5 of them and losing the 12 before winning 1-0 against Bournemouth. before going winless again for 4 more games.

Not only were they losing games they couldn't score goals something that they did so easily last season but not this season only scoring 26 goals in 34 games(as of this post).

FA CUP

Despite Norwich having A terrible season they miraculously had a great FA cup campaign and reached the Quarterfinal for the first time since 1992 before narrowly losing 2-1 to Manchester United in the Quarterfinal match. Unfortunately despite their amazing FA cup run they didn't turn it around in the league and continued to lose games.

And with four games to go and needing 7 points, results to go their way and two of the four fixtures being against top 6 teams it's almost impossible.

My analysis on why it went all wrong

Didn't spend money and when they did it wasn't on quality players

Norwich City has always made the mistake of either wasting money or not spending at all and being A low budget club it's understandable that they don't risk it all in fear of bankruptcy. However, the signings they did make this season haven't been good and have had little to no impact on the team in any way furthermore everyone knew there were issues with the defensive line however they didn't act on it and it ultimately cost them.

Losing Must-win games

Every game that Norwich realistically should have won they threw away it seemed as if they only played well against a top 6 team and games against fellow relegation-threatened teams they played poor to and lost.

Board making same mistakes time and time again

Norwich city is becoming known as the "yoyo" team because they get promoted and go straight back down the following season they have done it multiple times in their history so it is fair to say it's not 100% the manager's fault is it time for the board to take some blame I think so.

What's Next for Norwich

when they do eventually go down many of their Players will be sold as a credit to Norwich they have a fantastic academy that has developed great players such as Cantwell, Jamal Lewis and more but I see quite a few of their key players leaving when the season is over including Pukki, Buendia and more.

As for looking to get promoted again straight away, I won't write them off however it will be difficult as they will need to rebuild a squad and fill in those empty gaps.

That will conclude my Post Thanks for reading.

From what I've read and heard, the owners at Norwich have been pretty forthright in stating they didn't expect to come up last year and just because they did achieve their medium-term goal a little sooner than expected they weren't willing to tear-up their business plan and take a big risk on making expensive signings. There's no guarantee that things would have been different had they done so, just look at Villa or last year Fulham.

Ultimately their style of play is one that traditionally hasn't suited Championship sides coming up into the Premier League. The more successful promoted sides recently like Wolves, Sheffield United, Burnley and Newcastle have based their tactics on a strong defensive platform. The only side to really buck that trend has been Bournemouth and now they seem like they'll be going down too.

Financially I doubt they are in a position where they have to sell their best players but it might be difficult for them to resist offers for a few of the younger guys like Cantwell and Aarons. Spurs were rumoured to be interested in Aarons last summer and full-back is definitely an area they need to invest in + Aarons would help them meet their Home-Grown quota.
