A New Name On The Board

Yesterday I posted about the U.S. Open finals and the awkward situation I was in due to not knowing who to root for. As I said in my post, I kind of wanted both female tennis players to win for different reasons but I also knew that's not possible.

This morning I woke up early, started my tour on the internet but decided to stay away from Twitter to save the good stuff for later, like with the 🍬. Then I said it's time to find out what these two ladies have done. I accessed Twitter and to my surprise there were all kinds of news but had to scroll down to find what I needed. Then finally bumped into the big news!

Bianca Andreescu, the 19 year old Canadian has won the US Open, beating Serena Williams in two sets!

I really feel sorry for Serena Williams as this is a very big slap on her face. She lost at Wimbledon a month ago and now the US Open final. It's not fun at all to be second best after being the best for such a long time plus she got beaten by a player half her age and not even a third of her experience. Unfortunately this is life, there comes the younger generation, it's going to happen at some point, want it or not.

Serena Williams wanted this win as it would have meant to equal a record of 24th Grand Slam currently held by Margaret Court, the 77 year old former world No. 1 Australian tennis player. Looks like she has to wait and try again although as time passes, it becomes harder and harder.I wouldn't be surprised to read one day that she's retiring. Some athletes retire at the top of their career and not waiting to lose match after match. I believe she still thinks and feels she can get better.

I'm very happy for Bianca Andreescu for her performance. This win places her on the tennis map and shows her value and talent. It's a great achievement for her, a reward for her hard work. Her parents are of Romanian origin, Bianca was born in Canada and raised by her Romanian grandparents. I'm glad she had the chance to play tennis in Canada as in Romania she wouldn't have had the same conditions.

Bianca has been practicing meditation regularly since she was 12, as taught to her by her mother. She believes it helps her to maintain mental discipline on court. source

This is very helpful in my opinion as it helps you overcome mental challenges. It's not easy to handle that kind of pressure you meet at these high level competitions. How many players we have seen losing their temper and how many others making mistakes because of the pressure.

This is her first Grand Slam title and I'm pretty sure there will be others soon. I'm going to keep an eye on her :)

Serena should have retired already. The trick is to go out at the top and not become someone who was known for hanging around too long. A true champion retires on their terms and not when they see what we all see.

I agree, that's what the best do. The only explanation for why she is still playing is this record in my opinion. I understand that but it can end badly for her.
