ATP Tour - Dubai - Monfils vs Fucsovics

Last night I got to watch another good match, this time between the French Gaël Monfils and the Hungarian Márton Fucsovics. I've been waiting for this match as I wanted to see Fucsovics playing for the second time and meet Gaël Monfils for the first time.

I've seen Fucsovics at the Australian open, where he gave everything he had but unfortunately he was unlucky to meet Nadal in the third round. He's a tough player but playing against the world No 1 is even tougher. Obviously he lost the match. Monfils was new to me, I've never seen him before. They said he's good so we knew from the beginning that this will be an interesting match.

Fucsovics had a powerful start, I guess it's safe to say he dominated the match, but then it seemed as he lost his ability to concentrate or he made the wrong decisions as he made mistake after mistake. And the worst was that he made the same mistake over and over again.

Monfils also had a hard time on the tennis court. He was sweating abundantly, more than anyone else I've seen before. The commentator said he always do, which is fine as it was hot and the match tiring, but this wasn't all. He looked exhausted most of the time, bending over, testing his upper body holding his knees. This is highly unusual, I've never seen anyone do that repeatedly. Not to mention the match took around two hours.

It was an interesting match. We learned that Fuchovish has to learn from his mistakes and improve a lot, while Monfils needs to get himself in shape, be better and more resistant if he want's to win. He;s going to meet the Japanese Yasutaka Uchiyama Tomorrow.
