Australian Open, Kyrgios And The Others

As you know Australian Open is going on these days, which means there are plenty matches to see every day. The problem is who has so much free time because I don't. Today one of my new favorites played in round 3 and lucky me, I got to see the beginning and the end of a long match.

Nick Kyrgios met the French Gilles Simon today. As I said, unfortunately I couldn't watch the whole match but what I saw was quality tennis. Gilles Simon has an interesting career, he's career-high ATP singles ranking was world No. 6 attained on 5 January 2009, ten years ago. He's 35 now, no. 61 ATP and highly unlikely he's going to climb again. There's a curve in every player's life and I believe he has already reached the highest point of his curve.

Regardless, he played well today, made Kyrgios's job difficult. However Kyrgios offered a show as most of the times. He had some extremely nice hits. He won the match (6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5) and qualified for Round 4.

I said this before and maintaining my opinion. Kyrgios has had a rough start, got into trouble many times because of his tantrums but he has changed s much that it's unbelievable. He's a totally different man, and his change is for his own good. He's becoming my favorite.

Simona Halep also played today, this time against the British Harriet Dart, who's No. 132 right now. I guess no one had any doubts about how this match will end and of course Halep won. She's qualified for Round 4 now.

Nadal also had a match today with the Argentine Federico Delbonis. He beat the Argentinian 6-3 7-6(4) 6-1 qualifying for Round 3.

Something funny happened today. Nick Kyrgios along with Gilles Simon made fun of Rafael Nadal during the match. I've never seen such thing before on the tennis court. The truth is Nadal has a few things he does repeatedly that is annoying. For me is super annoying and I'm not sure I can watch him playing again unless he's playing with one of my favorites. It wasn't nice of these guys what they did though.

Ok, let's see what's coming next.

Nadal will meet Pablo Carreno Busta, who's also Spanish. This will be interesting. So far they have met 4 times and Nadal won every single time but that doesn't mean he's going to win every time.

Nick Kyrgios will meet the Russian Karen Khachanov. He's No. 16 right now, so this is going to be interesting.

Simona Halep will meed Yulia Putintseva, who's No. 32.

Novak Djokovic is palying tomorrow against the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka, No. 262, piece of cake.

Federer is going to play agains the Australian John Millman No. 347. I guess I can watch this match, let's hope so.
