New Faces In The ATP Finals

Looks like a new era is coming. I've said this before and looks like I was right. Old stars are on their way out and new ones are born. This is how things work in sports, you can't dominate forever, no matter what sport we are talking about. There comes a time when you have to say goodbye and retire. When is that time? It's hard to say but you have to know as if you don't do it in time, you're risking to be remembered not for your great achievements but because of your great losses. I don't think anyone is eager to be in that position.

As you know, ATP Finals are approaching soon and we have some new faces already qualified. One of the semifinals took place today between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Roger Federer and to my surprise my favorite, Federer lost the match. Stefanos Tsitsipas, the 21 year old Greek player has made history as he's the first Greek tennis player to qualify for tournament in half a century. This is a great achievement for him at this young age and a great achievement for Greece as well, where tennis is not o popular as in other countries. In the finals Stefanos Tsitsipas will be playing againt Alexander Zverev or Dominic Thiem.

He's a new face at this level and I hope he's going to be regular from now on as it's visible he's been working hard to get here. In a country where tennis is not very popular, it's not easy to get support but he was lucky. His mother was a professional tennis player and his father was trained as a tennis coach. His talent has been obvious, as a junior, he was ranked World No. 1. I hope he can be World No. 1 one day as an adult.

I truly hope for Federer this was just a bad day, I mean another bad day as he had quite a few lately. Maybe he's injured and pushing himself hoping he can do it but results peak for themselves and are not very good at the moment. I still hope he can come back next year good as new and achieve what he has to. It would be a shame for his career to end here as there are things he has to do, titles to win and so on.

Tomáš Berdych has announced his retirement from tennis. He was once world number 4. He played one Grand Slam final in 2010 with Rafael Nadal but he lost.
