World No 71 Paula Badosa stuns No. 1 Barty in Quarters

World No 1 Ashleigh Barty joins the list of surprise casualties has she suffered a shock defeat to No. 71-ranked Spaniard Paula Badosa in Charleston.

The game which ended in two set in 6-4, 6-3, sees Badosa advance to the semi final which is the biggest so far in her career.

The win also makes it her first victory against a top 10 opponent in her career, adding to her recent top 20 win against Belinda Bencic on Wednesday.

The 23 year old Spaniard Badosa expressed her excitement in an interview after the game. In her words:

“I can’t believe it. I still can’t believe I just beat the No. 1 in the world,”
