VISITING FOOTBALL STADIUM CAMP NOU ~ BARCELONA

The boys wanted to go, eventhough it was a very hot day. Before we left for Spain we said we would see, but we agreed that we would go. The tickets we bought and we went on our way. We took a cab from the harbour and in 25 minutes we at the entrance of the gigantic stadium. We had our telephones, cameras and the boys had their benuculars on them and a bottle of water. So off we went to go inside. We had a pass to visit all. Camp Nou is the stadium of footballclub FC Barcelona. Camp Nou literally means "new field" in the sense of being newly constructed. "Nou Camp" can be an old field to which the club has recently moved. Just as "casa nova" refers to a newly built house and "nova casa" refers to the house where you just moved in. The Catalans themselves use Camp Nou and we therefore also use Camp Nou. It is actually a nickname, because the official baptismal name at the completion of the (new) construction in 1957 became 'Nou Estadi del Futbol Club Barcelona'. The boys are 7 and 8 years old and the said they thought it was huge. The only stadium that they went to is our own De Kuip, of football club ~Feijenoord~ in Rotterdam With a spectator capacity of 99,354, Camp Nou is the largest stadium in Europe and one of the largest in the world and surroundings. It has an impressive architecture, for which the architects Mitjans, García Barbón and Soteres, who were added to the club history for ever, were responsible. Its great to see vision just as in Rotterdam with the Kuip or in Amsterdam with the Arena. The colors are amazing and its really clean. The next game is saturday. The facilities, despite their age, are dizzying and have earned the club a five-star FIFA qualification, and that can't say much. Camp Nou is an attraction for tourists who come from all over the world and usually even in an empty stadium can feel the fantastic atmosphere that prevails during competitions. The guided tour we booked was fully booked and we had 7 Nationalities joining in. The stadium opened in 1957.The first renovation was in 1982 before the world championship football. Besides the football offcourse there were also concerts held and even pope John Paul II held a mass for 125.00 people in 1982. We went in the catacombs and saw all the prizes, the led wall, the history with the pictures and stories and the dressing rooms. We even went outside next to the field. It was a great day and even if you don’t love football you will love this. Its a few bucks but its worth it. Oh and walking ON the grass is a dead sin.
