While the fans may not be 100% behind Mike White, the administration made it clear they are by giving the young coach a 2-year extension which has him coaching the Gators until 2027.

What This Means For The Gators

In a word stability.

Recruits like to know the coach is secure in their position, and now baring a major meltdown they can be confident that White will be the head coach at UF. Mike White has done a good job on the recruiting trail and this will help him stop any negative recruiting due to uncertainty.

White's Record At Florida

White is going into his 7th year with Florida and has a 123–75, and no conference championships. He has taken UF to the dance 5 of those 7 years and managed an Elite 8 appearance in just his second year.

My Take

I believe White could become a very good coach. His recruiting has improved every year. His game day coaching has some concerned, but I feel he is still young and the "feel" will come with experience.

I am happy for the extension but also know that UF has deep pockets and if the doors fall off they won't have a problem buying out his contract.

Some fans will undoubtedly question the extension. Many feel we could and should do better. I'm ok sitting the fence with him and hoping he grows into a top tier coach.

I did not know much about him before this post, but a lot of college coaches are much better recruiters than they are actual coaches. Take Patrick Ewing at Georgetown for example, his star-past brings a lot of talent to the school, but his offensive schemes leave a lot to be desired. I hope that White is able to bring some talent to the UF roster as we all know how important the freshman class is in college basketball in terms of providing star power and talent.

He has started getting into the 1 and done types but still mixes it with several 4-year types. His strong suite is point guards.

It could be worse for Mike White, he could be as loved in Gainesville as Tom Crean is in Athens. Man, do they hate Crean.

Mike White needs a more coherent offense than the DHO Motion Offense.
