Best result ever for Ferrari as no fines or warnings as no real evidence found.

The FIA has come clean to the 7 teams who filed a complaint the other day. The teams were saying that a private settlement was not being transparent enough and that they would like some clarity.

Ferrari revealed that they could find no wrong doing on part of Ferrari regarding the power unit and would take too much time to find the real truth. The private agreement was that Ferrari stop whatever they are doing immediately and revert back to what they had previously. They know whatever it was that Ferrari was doing was not legal, but proving it was another thing.

The 7 teams are not happy with this as they believe that for the good of the sport Ferrari should be forced to disclose their secret gains in power so it cannot happen again. If they have done it once without being proven who says they wont do it again in a more subtle conniving way. they are considering taking legal action as it is in their best interest for it to be disclosed exactly what they were doing.

I think it is human nature to push boundaries and if nothing was proven surely they will revisit that time gain somewhere again in the future. This time instead of gaining a 1 second advantage they may just take a half second to make it less obvious.

I feel it is a little harsh on Ferrari if it was legal but they would have fought the decision if that was the case. This tells me that there was definitely something up and the shenanigans could return if their backs are up against the wall again this season. Every team must have their secrets and no one team is holier than thou so I am sure this type of thing is happening more often than not.

I do find it interesting that the FIA technical group could not find the proof of cheating even though they knew it was there. The team has some of the top engineers on the planet having poached them from various teams over the years. They know that there is a smoking gun ,but just cannot work out how and where.

The FIA introduced extra fuel flow sensors last year as an extra precautionary measure to try and thwart any bending of the rules. The Honda engineers were the ones to point everyone in that direction and other than letting them look at the Ferrari engine which will never happen it will remain a mystery.

Personally I am happy that teams are trying to push boundaries all the time as finding new power gains by some smart engineering benefits the sport. When you have teams with the top engineering brains in the world you will find that many ideas are bordering on the illegal side of things. )
