American Max Homa wins the PGA Genesis Invitational

Hometown kid, Max Homa, won the Genesis Invitational in a playoff right up the road from where he grew up. On an immaculate Riviera course overlooking the Pacific Ocean, he carded a bogey-free 66 to win his 2nd professional tournament. But it wasn't easy.

Tony Finau finished the day with eight birdies and a bogey to shoot a 7-under 64 and had a putt to win it on the first playoff hole. He missed. Homa, who had just made an incredible recovery shot from nearly against the base of a tree to save par then stuffed his tee shot on the 2nd playoff hole, the par-3 14th, and two-putted to win after Finau couldn't get up and down from the bunker.

It was an emotional win for Homa. Nearly in tears, Homa said in the interview afterwards, "Been watching this tournament my whole life. It's the reason I fell in love with golf." He also got the added bonus of receiving the trophy directly from the host, Tiger Woods.

"I was too scared to talk to Tiger the other day," he said in the same interview. "He's forced to talk to me now so it's gonna be pretty awesome!"

Just another great moment for the game of golf.

Down the leaderboard, a few big names had good tournaments but couldn't compete with the lights-out golf these top two were playing today. John Rahm shot 66 and finished T5th and Masters Champion, Dustin Johnson, faltered on the back and finished with a 72 and a tie for 8th.
