FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - After saying he didn't plan on training after his 70th birthday, Bill Belichick left the door open to the possibility of doing so.

"When I said it, maybe I didn't know what it felt like to be 70 years old, so I'm not really sure if what I said is something accurate today or it isn't," the New England Patriots coach said Monday, during his weekly appearance in WEEI. “At that time, I didn't feel that way. Now that I'm closer to those, I don't know. ”

Last Sunday, in the victory over the Cleveland Browns, Belichick, 67, recorded his 300th victory as head coach in the regular season and Playoffs and joined Don Shula (347) and George Halas (324) as the only ones Coaches who have managed to overcome that barrier.

If Belichick plans to stop training for his 70th birthday

In the 2009 documentary “A Football Life: Bill Belichick,” the coach said he did not plan to follow the path of the legendary Buffalo Bills coach, Marv Levy, who had trained beyond the age of 70.

When the subject was touched, Belichick used to divert attention, but in recent years he has given reasons to consider that he has softened his posture.

When the issue of leading beyond 70 years of age in Monday's radio interview came up and Belichick was told that he could be "an 80-year-old," the Patriots coach had a more positive reaction.

"That sounds good. Being a young man in whatever, ”Belichick replied in what appeared to be a reference to a book that, he said, he enjoyed reading recently called“ Younger Next Year, ”written by Dr. Henry S. Lodge and Chris Crowley.

Belichick has also talked in recent years about what he enjoys having his children Steve and Brian in the Patriots coacheo staff.

Steve is in his eighth season with the team and currently works as a safeties coach, while Brian is in his fourth year and is currently a general assistant coach.
