Kentucky defeats Morehead State in season opener

Kentucky basketball is back! John Calipari's new Wildcat team opened the season at home against fellow instate team Morehead State Eagles on Wednesday night. This was not much more than a scrimmage as Kentucky easily went on to the victory 81-45.

Despite being a young team, the Cats played like they had been together for much longer. They were able to put together 4 players with double digit scoring while overmatching MSU's offense.

While it was exciting watching all of the new players take the court, I was especially excited to see Dontaie Allen getting to suit up. Allen was a former Kentucky Mr. Basketball that was forced to miss last season due to recovering from a torn ACL. Allen averaged 42.9 points in his senior season which led to lots of eyes on how he'd perform at the next stage. While he only scored 4 points in his 6 minutes of play it was good to at least see him out on the court.

I'm certainly excited to watch this team grow. Like most Kentucky teams there's a lot of green to work through but if that can be dealt with there's more than enough talent to take this team into April.

The Cats will play again on Sunday afternoon in Rupp Arena. They'll be going up against the Richmond Spiders at 1pm. You'll be able to watch that game on ESPN.
