Being Submissive Can Empower The Attacker
You're right and you can prove it. So do you expect others to act the way they are supposed to do? Guys who has power show their power and what they say, try to establish that. And when you are dealing with bad guys, they might not think the way you think.
When you face a situation where the possible attacker is shouting at you, he is showing his power and dominance. When you do not say anything and show submissive body language, that can empower the attacker. If the attacker realizes he can get away with whatever he does, he will show his total dominance.
Staying calm in a stressful situation is a great quality. At the same time, if you just stay calm and show submissive body language, the attacker will be more aggressive and there is a high chance he will attack you.
This is what usually happens in real life. When you understand the situation better that you are in, you can make your move effectively to defend yourself. Stay calm but do not show submissive body language. Be confident and occupy more space. Don't make yourself an easy target.
The attacker might do his best to take advantage of the situation. For example, you made a mistake. You apologize that for that. You are willing to compensate, but the possible attacker is very aggressive. He will be more aggressive when he realize that he can easily get away with attacking you. You will not fight back.
Even though you talk with logic, that might not work. Understanding the situation always give you an advantage and be prepared to face the unexpected things.
