Common Uppercut Mistakes

avatar

Punch is one of the most common strikes. There are different ways you can punch. Uppercut is one of them. This strike comes from down to upwards.

If you know how to do uppercut, that's great. However, there are some mistakes you can make doing uppercut. Maybe you are not aware of that. Let's watch this video. In this video, it explains very well what you are not doing right while doing uppercut.

Every strike is designed for a specific purpose. If your opponent is far away and you do uppercut, that is not going to work. And even if you extend your hand to hit with uppercut, well, that's not the uppercut meant to be.

If you cannot reach your opponent with uppercut, you can throw a straight punch instead of an uppercut. It could be because of the distance or your opponent is very tall. One of the mistakes mentioned in this video is no mortal kombat. I like that one.

Have you ever played Mortal Kombat game? If yes, you saw how they throw uppercut sometimes. They exaggerate too much, getting down and then all the way upwards.

When you watch movies, you see some strikes look very strong and powerful. Sometimes they do it only for the camera. They move their hands or legs from far away so that it looks good on camera. But when you fight for self defense, you do not want to do that. That's just an unnecessary move.

If you expose yourself while doing uppercut, you should pay attention to that. Don't keep your chin up and do the uppercut. Keep your chin down and hands up. At the moment of attacking, you are not thinking of defending. So when you attack your opponent, attack with a strong defense.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and watching this video. If you find it useful, please let me know. If you like martial arts and want to learn more about self defense, you can check out some of my recent posts.
